ReBlog: What is Magnesite Flooring?

by Tracy on June 28, 2010

From my colleague in the La Crescenta area, Phyllis Harb, here is a general description of magnesite flooring: http://los-angeles-real-estate-blog.com/2009/06/16/what-is-magnesite-flooring.aspx#comment-3156812.  I’ve sold several houses with this type of flooring, used mostly for stairs. From the Western Magnesite website at http://www.westernmagnesite.com:

For exterior walking surfaces.

A unique formulation of magnesium oxychloride cement with inert fillers and aggregates, Magnesite installs over any structurally sound sub floor. It can be applied in a countless variety of textures, patterns, designs, and finishes to achieve the look and effect you’ve only dreamed about with other surfaces.

  • Resistant to grease, oil and solvents
  • Excellent for sanitary installations
  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • Hard, strong, long-lasting-yet flexible
  • Outstanding resistance to abrasion, weathering, and water

But I have seen it often used for interior stairs and hallways as well.
